“Their raucous live shows are already the stuff of legend … the future is theirs for the taking” – NME

Boys & Girls, the hypnotic, show-stopping debut album from Alabama Shakes, will be released on 6 April 2012 via Rough Trade / Remote Control / Shock.

Comprising vocalist/guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, drummer Steve Johnson and bassist Zac Cockrell, as well as Ben Tanner who assists on keyboards, Alabama Shakes began playing together in high school. Their debut album Boys & Girls was recorded at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville, USA. Produced and mixed by the band members, the album is a vibrant fusion of swampy dirty south-rock, blues and soul delivered with punk rock fervour.

Alabama Shakes have already taken the world by storm, having sold out their three upcoming debut UK shows as part of the 2012 NME Awards. Jack White’s Third Man Records has selected Alabama Shakes to kick off its series of live 45 releases with a two-song 7” due out in late January, and the band will make its television debut in the US on Conan on Tuesday 7 February 2012.

The release of Boys & Girls marks the arrival of a major new rock and roll band. To the members themselves, though, what’s been most exciting has been the reaction they have felt on stage, whether tiny local dates or under the glare of the media. “It seems like everyone can tell how into it we are,” says Cockrell. “Every show, people say they can feel how much we love what we’re doing.”
